Having sent former mascot Ole Colonel Reb off to the Old Racist Retirement Home after last lackluster season, the University of Mississississississississippi (Ole Miss) has announced an election between two mascot candidates - Rebel Bruiser and Rowdy Rebel shown below.
The election is limited to verifiable UM alumnae, students and the like.
Late breaking news alleges that Rowdy Rebel has groped women, cattle and has posted naked pictures of himself on a secret website.
Other allegations are that Rebel Bruiser's claims to mixed racial heritage are unsubstantiated.
Fans from certain other SEC schools, a bit miffed at not being allowed to vote on the new mascot, nominated this image instead:

UPDATE: Predictably, this is a popular topic. Dave spotted this site on which the UM athletic administration was being very mildly ridiculed. Ole Miss should be made to suffer for their unmitigated foolishness.
They're both SERIOUSLY lame. Not only that, they're both wearing FOOTBALL gear. How are the athletes on all the rest of Ole Miss' teams going to like that?
If Ole Miss really wants to ditch Colonel Reb and go the PC route, they should just pick a mascot that has absolutely nothing to do with their team name, like Alabama did. Since Bama has already laid claim to the elephant, perhaps Ole Miss could go with a hippo or an ardvark.

Wow Ole Miss is not racist just because they picked a confederate soldier.This shows how intelligable you are.If you would brush up on your history you would of known that slavery wasnt even an issue in the Civil War till it was about half way over,and Abraham Lincoln passed it when the Union was losing,many people believe he passed it just so he could get African American recruits and because Britian was about to help the confederacy which would of resulted in the Confederacy win of the war but when slavery became an issue they backed out because they thought slavery was attrocious.The University of Mississippi only picked a confederate to show how proud they were to be in the south.
