GRRRRRRRR!
Get in line all you Toldjasoers. It looks like I may finally have to replace the Kerosene Powered PC in the Giant Mug.
Much of the blame can be placed on dave for his (very) humorous illustration of my PC. This undoubtedly brought the wrath of the computer deities down upon me, because the monitor took a crap-nap yesterday evening. It's the second one to do that, and I borrowed it from someone who coincidently needs it back next week. Ratz.
As far as I can tell the other parts are still functioning, but without the 3.5 candlepower cathode-ray-tube emitting its feeble radiation, how would I know?
From a practical standpoint, I'm gonna have to salvage an old monitor from somewhere or go buy one at a PC surplus warehouse because it's going to take a few weeks to get the second mortgage approved. Yeah, I could buy the rinky-dink $399 desktop off the cover of the latest Dell flyer, but I drive 'em until the wheels come off (case in point - 1997 Gateway 300mhz Pentium II with Win95 and all the Belgian Whistles!) so I might as well spend a little to get a decent setup.
Among other things, I'll require the soundcard from hell so I can digitize my extensive analog musical collections and some digital picture manglement software. A scanner'll probably have to wait though. I'm mostly off the fence against getting any major video editing/DVD setup, but I'm open to suggestions.
I'd rather not fire-drill this, but I can see bag-to-school posing as much problem as opportunity.
Grrrrrr.
